The Portfolio Manager III will provide support to the Commercial Lender by underwriting at an advanced level of complexity for commercial relationships. This position requires an extreme sense of urgency and a faster than average work pace is necessary. They will provide guidance for structuring, servicing, and analyzing both new and renewal credits. They will identify, gather and review financial information to determine borrower risk ratings and appropriate loan structuring/monitoring. They will assess and communicate risks to assist department risk mitigation strategies. They will provide service and support for both associates and clients, participating in client calls/meetings and identifying cross-sell opportunities. They may assist in prospecting efforts. They may assist with special projects as needed to facilitate commercial lending activities and service capabilities and may provide direction to less experienced Portfolio Managers within the Commercial Lending team. In this position, they will work closely with Commercial Lenders and other Portfolio Managers to achieve an outstanding customer experience, while upholding company standards, and adhering to polices and regulations.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Maintain a high level of confidentiality with all customer information.
  2. Responsible for reporting to work on time, taking required breaks, and working for the full amount of time scheduled before leaving. Notifying supervisor of any deviation from these responsibilities is necessary.
  3. Supports Commercial Lenders by actively participating and assisting in all aspects of the loan process.
  4. May attend sales meetings/calls and serve as additional contact for commercial bank clients.
  5. Identifies additional opportunities to meet client needs and expand relationships with new and existing clients. May assist lenders in their prospecting efforts.
  6. Utilizes maturing loan reports to determine identify upcoming maturities for timely renewals and addressing balloon payments well in advance.
  7. Prepare timely, concise and accurate credit recommendations with limited supervision or revisions. This includes new loans, renewals, modifications and change in terms. Additionally, prepares Annual CRE Review and Periodic Financial Review memos required for ongoing portfolio management.
  8. Analyze business, industry, financial data and other supporting credit information concerning an applicant’s credit request; identifies key business and financial risks that may impact the repayment prospects by the borrower; derives conclusions support the credit recommendation based on documented facts and/or sound judgement.
  9. Communicate to Lenders any financial constraints, exceptions noted, subject to approval requirements, non-compliance with financial covenants, etc.
  10. Review/analyze collateral quality, value and applicable advance rates.
  11. Recommend appropriate risk rating based on financial and collateral analysis performed, consulting w/lender.
  12. Is actively involved in QA (quality assurance), involving understanding the loan documentation components and reviewing for accuracy.
  13. Assists the Commercial Lending Team in maintaining and properly documenting loan files.
  14. Ability to work independently and be a self-starter, making decisions in day-to-day tasks that impact the commercial lending department and bank.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate degree and/or a combination of education and experience in business, accounting, finance or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to: Minimum of five plus years’ of lending or equivalent experience is required. Business lending experience is preferred with emphasis on the lending needs of commercial borrowers. Critical thinking skills are a must.
